About the TrekVisual Family

I've always found it easy to express myself through visual mediums. I've been scribbling ever since I was a little kid, usually when I was bored or had nothing else to do. For me, it was just a way of occupying my mind, and it wasn't until my university years that I became serious about it. At that time, I was immersing myself into the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. The incredibly descriptive language of his books fueled my imagination to the point where I just had to take out a pencil and ink and start drawing. To this day, Tolkien's world remains my continuous inspiration.
Similarly, my introduction to the world of digital art and design has been inspired by another fascination of mine - Star Trek (yeah, I'm a Trekkie). It started with simple website updates of an online Star Trek writing group I belonged to, but soon (finding myself reasonably good at it) I volunteered to make a brand new site for the same group. It took me over three months of work, but once it was finished, I knew I was hooked. I replaced the ink, pencil and eraser with a mouse, Photoshop and Dreamweaver and began my journey through the digital world. Since then I've designed and maintained websites, created graphics and banners and made many digital designs, some as commissions, some for my own pleasure. I was also fortunate to venture into the printing business, when a Serbian novelist commissioned me to design covers for her books.
So, at heart, I'm a graphic designer, who knows a thing or two about web design and print services. For me, the design process is always a very involved experience, as I am a perfectionist with very high standards, and am my own worst critic. I focus on creating highly visually appealing designs, while keeping my eye on the aspects of practicality and usability. I feel that I've succeeded when my design can impress the viewers, while being comfortable and easy to use at the same time.

I've spent the last 5 years as an eBay Powerseller. I spent several years before that in the graphic design/print industry and then went on to teaching Social Studies in the South Bronx until I was forced to move out of NYC and head for the beautiful, rolling hills (?) of Southern Illinois, where Kait and I have worked to maintain and grow our eBay business. Throughout those years, we've both done quite a few graphic design freelance jobs 'on the side'. Web and Graphic Design were always what we truly wanted to do, but never persued.
When I'm not on the computer, I'm usually out in the garden. I'm a transplanted NYC girl now living in the middle of nowhere, USA, and have become somewhat of a tree-hugger. Composting and caring for the environment is one of my life's priorities. (I also really just like pretty flowers!) Which leads to my next greatest interest.
Growing up, the brother that I admired most was into photography, developing his own film in the basement of our house. I suppose wanting to be just like him, I picked up a camera as soon as I was able to, and started shooting my garden. I found macro photography and just went crazy with it.
Finally, I torture myself trying to learn Serbian whenever I can. Why Serbian? Totally my husband, Goran's fault. We're currently separated by a stupid ocean, and look very much forward to the day we can be together again. In the meantime, I'll visit him in Serbia as much as I can.
I'm looking forward to this new chapter in our lives and hope that we can optimally utilize our combined and each of our unique skills - in both design and customer service - and provide a superb service that helps to grow and beautify other businesses on the web and in print.

I'm a graphic designer with over 20 years in the graphic design industry. I began drawing and painting 24 years ago as an outlet and a way to escape a troubled homelife. It wasn't long before art became a passion. In college, I became interested in commercial illustration and traditional graphic design (pre-computer), refered to at that time as commercial art. It wasn't until 5 years later, computers entered the picture. I'm an expert in the use of the most popular design programs: i.e. Photoshop, Illustrator, Freehand, QuarkXpress, Pagemaker and InDesign.
I have worked for 15 years as a freelance Graphic Designer and another 5 years as a Graphic Designer and Art Director at a printing company. I specialize in logo and print layout design. I've been called a perfectionist and I take great pride in my work and giving 110% to my clients.
Along with graphic design, I am also a passionate traditional fine artist. I have such a wide range of interests, that my work ranges from abstracts to portraits, landscapes and wildlife in a wide variety of media such as oil painting, acrylics, pencil and watercolor. To quote Georgia O'Keefe: "I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn't say any other way - things I had no words for."

About Us
TrekVisual is a small, family-run business.
Goran and Mary are a husband and wife team, separated by a gazillion
miles, and a huge ocean (aka The Atlantic). Kait, the innocent
bystander to this stressful long distance marriage, is often ambushed
by separation anxiety and other torments, and is the pillar that offers
a hug and emotional glue whenever possible. Part of every graphic
design job will go to our 'shorten the distance between this family'
fund.
